WEAR ORANGE TODAY!! Today is Unity Day, a day dedicated to supporting bullying victims and to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. To show your support, wear orange to school, educate yourself and promise to stand up for bullying victims, and post a response on the Padlet (the link is on our website) talking about why you care about bullying victims. Mustangs, 57% of bullying situations stop when a peer intervenes on behalf of the student being bullied. Show them that they’re not alone.

Can’t find something orange to wear? No problem! Come grab an orange ribbon from the box sitting outside of Mrs Corritone’s office in the lower quad and wear it around your wrist on Wednesday! (Please only take one per person)

New Library Hours!  The Library is now open Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays from 8:15-4, Wednesdays from 9-4 and Fridays from 9-3:30.

WELLNESS CENTER ACTIVITIES 10/18-1022 This week, we are partnering with the Cranes for Hope Club and making the CUTEST mini crane pots! Stop by any day of the week, Oct. 18-22 at lunch to make your own!

CULTURE IS NOT A COSTUME

Halloween is around the corner! We invite you to join MV in being mindful of not exploiting other cultures through the costumes we wear. There is a difference between cultural appreciation and appropriation.

  • Appreciation is having a genuine interest in learning deeply about a culture with the purpose of and authentically embracing the beauty of the diversity.
  • Appropriation happens when we adopt specific aspects of a different culture without consent, including clothing, dancing, ritual, and other meaningful or symbolic acts.
  • Why does it matter? A person of color might be discriminated against because of a hairstyle that relates to their culture, while someone who is part of the dominant group can get away with appropriating that same hairstyle, making it trendy, and never understanding the oppression that people from that culture experience as a result, and without being able to choose.

Here is a great video from Teen Vogue
