Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, SRVUSD students and their parent or guardian must attend a free two hour California Highway Patrol Start Smart class traffic safety class to be eligible for to purchase a student parking permit.

Start Smart provides an opportunity for teens and their parents/guardians to discuss the serious laws, obligations, responsibilities and family expectations that are part of driving a vehicle. At this class, California Highway Patrol officers will discuss traffic avoidance techniques, collision causing factors, driver/parent responsibilities and seatbelt usage. The goal is to promote and create safe driving habits around SRVUSD schools.

Classes will begin in 2017-2018 for parking pass eligibility in the 2018-19 school year. All SRVUSD comprehensive high school will offer several free classes each year that are open to anyone. The class must only be taken once during a student’s high school career. Upon attending the class, students will receive a certificate of completion. PARKING PERMITS ($150.00 per year & valid for the academic school year of purchase only)

All Monte Vista High School parking lots are permit only parking lots. Permits can only be purchased by senior and junior students who currently hold a valid driver’s license. Students must return a parking application, and present a current valid driver’s license, and fee of $150.00 to the bookkeeper in order to be issued a parking permit. Vehicles without current parking permits may be ticketed. A parking permit is required to park on campus, but having one does not a guarantee a space, except in carpool spots. Students who obtain a carpool parking permit will have a dedicated parking space for the school-year. All other parking is on a first-come, first-served basis, and students may only park in student-designated stalls in the designated parking lots. Permits may be withdrawn for any violation of the California Vehicle Code on the MVHS campus, on the way to and from school, or at a school activity.  Repeated parking violations and/or a failure to comply with school rules may also result in loss of permit and/or disciplinary action.
